Inspiring Communities Through Storytelling and Strategy

When SPAR UK launched their School Sports Day Giveaway, they needed a campaign that would connect emotionally and activate communities. Working in partnership with their agency, Genesis, we were brought in to lead creative direction, capture high-quality video content, and deliver a full suite of branded assets for digital marketing and social sharing.

This campaign centred on GB Hurdler Marli Jessop, who returned to her old school to inspire pupils – creating the perfect real-world setting for authentic, purposeful storytelling.

Creative Process

From the outset, our goal was to deliver campaign video marketing content that felt real, optimistic, and aligned with SPAR’s community values. The project unfolded in three stages:

  1. Story Planning & Script Prep
    We worked closely with the Genesis team to script key messages and plan the natural narrative flow of the shoot – ensuring everything felt spontaneous while keeping the campaign’s core goals front and centre.
  2. On-location Filming & Sound
    At Marli’s former school, we captured her journey through the halls with her old PE teacher, a heartfelt Q&A with students, and high-energy footage of warm-ups, sprint coaching, and even a race with the pupils. We followed up with a final shoot at the local SPAR store, delivering the hero call to action directly to camera.
  3. Editing for Impact
    We produced a cinematic hero film alongside a library of short-form videos for Instagram, Facebook, and paid promotions. In 2024, we re-edited the footage for a new campaign rollout – showing the long-term value of thoughtful campaign content production.

The Result

This project demonstrated how effective video marketing for campaigns can be when rooted in real stories. With multiple deliverables and a format designed for multi-platform use, the content drove meaningful engagement and left a lasting impression – not just on viewers, but on SPAR’s campaign ROI.
